The Athena Forum held an event, at the Royal Society, on Friday 28th November 2014 'Celebrating success and looking ahead' celebrating past achievements and looking ahead at future project activities.
The event was chaired by Professor Ottoline Leyser FRS (Chair of the Athena Forum) and included presentations from prominent scientists, who champion the advancement of women in science, including Professor Dame Julia Higgins DBE FREng FRS, Dame Athene Donald DBE FRS and Professor Tom Welton (Head of Chemistry at Imperial College London).
The event brought together around 40 key figures from the scientific community, who are currently engaged with gender issues in higher education, to discuss the challenges facing the advancement of women in STEMM and how the Athena Forum can best use its collective membership to drive through change.
At the event, the Forum launched it's report 'The Athena Project Review' in celebration of the successes of the Athena Project. The Forum expressed their thanks to Caroline Fox (Advisor to the Athena Forum 1999-2014) for her exceptional work on the Athena Project. This was followed by group discussion sessions to identify actions that the Forum could consider taking forward.
The event concluded with an informal drinks reception.
